I know William buried his children at the Parish Church rather that Annan Cemetery.

Well ! That's another theory squashed. :(

Our ancestors could be so inconsiderate at times.

Now where did I put my thinking cap :?: :?:

I just wish I had asked more questions, but then what would I do with all my spare time.

Thanks.

Just a little thought about the granny saying they were good church folk; my gg grandmother was a strict Catholic in every sense of the word. Yet she married four days before her first child was born. My mum was shocked.

Also, perhaps granny is remembering her father with his second wife as good church folk? Just a thought or two...

Hi Audrey,

Have you checked the records of birth for the other children? The fact the marriage is listed as in Annan in 1857 on John's cert may be simply wrong, perhaps an assumption by the registrar, or perhaps misinformation given by the couple - what do the other birth certs say?

Could it have been the old burial ground in Annan rather than the Old Parish Church burial ground?

Come to think of it the death certificate for Baby William has the old Churchyard, but then that is what my grandmother called the cemetery behing the Parish Church.
I never thought it could mean the one by the Town Hall.

I remember playing there as a child and being told off for it as the steps were unsafe. Never mind it was disrespecting the dead.

Oh goodness another puzzle.
