It looks to me like "received testimony of..."

What sort of testificat did Thomas produce? I can't see "sessional" as the last word of the first line of his marriage record. That word is bugging me - any more thoughts on it?

Hi Anne
It looks to me like "received testimony of..."
I would agree with that one - received looks reasonable
The last word is yrof = thereof, I think.
And Sufficient testificat is looking pretty good too.

Best wishes
Lesley

Sorry for disappearing, couldnt get on the internet yesterday at work.

Seems that Eddlesto(u)n is not far from Peebles. Based on the map below.

Would the first part not be:

Thomas Sanderson in Edlestoun pari(doesnt look like parish) having produced a fullforward to ?

Anyone have any idea how they would have lived? In a small holding and probably farmers?

Many Thanks. :)

Hi Andy
having produced a fullforward
The last three letters of that word are definately -ent No doubt in my mind about that.
I'm pretty sure that the word following "Edlestoun" is parish. The formation of an "h" is not as you might expect these days- e.g. look at the word "himself" and also look at the letters "s" and "f" in that word for comparison purposes with the letterforms in "sufficient". Look at the same word "parish" in context in the following line and in the following entry on the page. I'm no expert in Secretary hand but in the course of my research I've had to decipher a good number of documents.
If in doubt, check out: http://www.scottishhandwriting.com/

Best wishes
