There are mistakes in the index, both on Scotlands People and on the original index in New Register House - some down to difficult handwriting on the original certificate, and some down to errors when this was keyed into the computer system. As the saying tells us "to err is human". So long as mistakes found are reported back, then they can be corrected for better use in the future.
