Yes I see the problem
I was trying to see if I had any other Camelon deaths about the same period which might give a clue, but the nearest, 20 years, after has Geo. Stewart MB as the certifying doctor

Like Lesley, I would vote for James? Fisher. Gilchrist is one of the names I'm researching and it doesn't resemble any of the permutations I've seen!
Best wishes

Oh yes please Anne, that would be wonderful. I have a lot of Burts in my tree...they and the Craigs did a lot of marrying together
Brian, I don't know if I've asked you before but I have a Spencer Gilchrist who married George Stevens 1773 in Dalziel, Lanark. I have never been able to find out any more about her...parents? siblings?

Don't know where you got pic of death certificate, but if it was obtained from scotlandspeople.com you can fill in an online form stating that it is illegible.
They used to post you a paper copy of the certificate which was very clear, but now they seem to just retake the pic to make writing clearer.
Click on 'contact us' at botttom-right of home page, then follow that for a few more clicks till you get to illegible image, then eventually a form to post the details of your certificate.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can help - my Gilchrists from Lanarkshire seem to have been living in and around Wiston & Roberton and Douglas in the 1770s. The furthest back I've got is William Gilkerson my 5th great grandfather and I haven't found any Spencers. The family changed from Gilkerson to Gilchrist sometime around 1800.
Later generations moved East to Peebles and Midlothian and seemed to have bypassed the coalfields of Dalziel altogether, although one did become a miner in Haddington!
I'll keep my eyes open though, you never know....
Best wishes
Brian

Here we go folks, a rescan from SP (thank you SP)
"Scarlet Fever, 8 days, as certified by James Gardiner, Surgeon Falkirk who saw deceased on 25th Nov 1860"
And thanks Brian, I'll find her one day. The variation of the name is interesting too, I hadn't thought of that one
best regards to all who helped, Sylvia
