Hi Anne, regarding the Kirk Session records. The Wright family from Perthshire were members of the Associate Session Congregation. (I kick with the other foot so this may be wrong). I think that the Associate Session Congregation is a branch of Reformed Presbyterianism in which the Church members choose their Ministers rather than relying on the General Assembly to send or assign Ministers. (this may be completely incorrect) But I believe the Patronage Act had something to do with it.

I don't have a clue whether they were regarded as part of the Established Church but do know that records are available for the mid 1700s and there probably would have been a version of Kirk Session records.

Hi again Dennis,

Looks like you're not related to Alexander Kemp Wright after all. Alexander was the son of Andrew and Isabella Kemp and all available evidence shows that Andrew's parents were James and Ann Stalker.

Helen's parents were William and Susan Alison. And, judging by the middle names of a couple of their children, McLaren and Stevenson surnames are important.

You don't say whether you found Susan's death but there is a recorded birth of a Susannah Stevenson Alison in St. Ninian's to William and Janet Graham.

The 1855 birth cert of William and Susan's son, William in Stirling should have the parents parish of birth.

Torbrex (not Torbren as it says on the Census) is an small Suburban Area of Stirling adjoining St. Ninians and probably would have come under this parish. So while not definite yet William and Janet Ure are really starting to look good.

There are a couple of possible children for William and Janet Ure still living in Stirling in 1881. However Wright is a very common name and these may be coincidences:

Added because of the McLaren link

Added because of the Iron work. James and Alexander are just about exactly the right ages for William's brothers even though no George is recorded for William and Janet Ure.

Hope this helps a bit. Your next step is to track down Susan (Alison) Wright's death to see whether she was widowed, either way it'll help you narrow down William's death date and probably place.

Best of luck

Hello Andy.

"The 1855 birth cert of William and Susan's son, William in Stirling should have the parents parish of birth."

The 1855 birth cert of William and Susan's son, William in Stirling
Has the parish of birth as Stirling and the Burgh of Stirling.

"You don't say whether you found Susan's death but there is a recorded birth of a Susannah Stevenson Alison in St. Ninian's to William and Janet Graham."

The Susan's dc does not show if she was a widow when she died in 1897. The Informant is her son James.

Hi again,

Susan's death cert says "Married to William Wright" not "Widow of" so William was still alive (unless the RCC says differently).

What's more the certificate does not indicate that William Allison was dead, I be most surprized if he wasn't.

So, in the meantime, you're looking for William in the 1901 census if he's not there you've got a four year search on your hands. If he is in the 1901 census hunt the death of a William Wright, probably in St Andrew Parish from 1891 to 1931 (born 10 years either side of 1831). If nothing turns up widen the search to Midlothian then everywhere.

Hello Andy,

Was looking at Janet Allison (nee Graham) dc and she is a widow when she died on Aug. 26, 1873 at the age of 86 in the District of St. Ninians in the County of Stirling. Her dc also has her deceased huband William's occupation as 'Dyker'. The Informant is a nephew William Allison in Stirling.

Hi Andy.

I've uploaded the 1871 census and it shows William & Susan Wright (nee Allison) as having kids in various places. It also looks like not all the children survived.
