Hi Carol,
Yes, it's unbelievable that anyone would have to live under those frightening conditions but seems that they choose to live there for the free rent rather than move to another area...not much of a choice though since they probably didn't have tuppence to their name.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi daisydog01,
Welcome to TalkingScot!
Not sure about the name being Cornish or Scottish but a move because of work might be a possible reason.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi Daisy
I did a bit researching for the husband of a friend who was convinced his ancestry was purely Scottish. He discovered that his people were mostly from Ireland but also from Cornwall and Devon. They were tin and copper miners who moved up here to mine coal when their mines ceased to be so productive. I would guess the same applies with yours.

I've been trying to find out the name of this place for ages from the same certificate and stumbled across it the other day. I was looking on Geograph at something else and I knew Nappiefaulds rang a bell with me. Then I Googled it and found this thread. John and Robina were my great, great grandparents.

Hi Iain and a warm welcome to TalkingScot from me too.
Isn't it amazing what comes up for you with Google??
Robina Allan is my 2nd cousin 3 times removed - not sure what that makes us!
I didn't do a lot of research on John and Robina and their children other than the census records but will be happy to fill you in on what I have.
Just send me a pm.
Anne H
Corrected to read Robina Allan 2nd cousin
