That’s excellent Alan. Many thanks to David Roberts at the Paisley Museum. Let’s hope that the artist wasn’t one of those who didn’t sign his work.

All the best,
Alan

Greetings All.

Now that it is April 2 here in NZ I will post that the PAISLEY HISTORY MUSEUM has a new Curator. David ROBERTS, the former Curator was unable to assist me further in my quest, before advising he was moving on, so this leaves the question open as to a provenance with regard to the painting, and or the Paisley Museum coloured print thereof.

No other source has been forth coming with info either. Such a pity, as it is a great heritage painting from my perspective, for those down under.

Hello Alan,

I can’t help with the RFHS masthead artists name but here’s another view from a slightly different angle. This one is ‘artist unknown’. “Paisley and Abbey Bridge from Seedhill, circa 1825-1830“ http://www.flickr.com/photos/33196132@N05/3523133141/

There have been several additions to the RFHS site since you made your original posting. They are probably not too interested in taking on the additional workload of answering email enquiries from non-members.

All the best,
Alan

Greetings Alan.

Once again you have found something I did not find in my searches. Think I prefer the one painted in slightly warmer colours. See another reason to live on a farm, all those chimneys smoking away. That ones is dated so the c1800 guess will not be far off for the one used by RFHS.

Yes the RFHS site is updated from time to time, with coming events, and now my emails are not immediately returned, but there must be a back log, because I have not had any contact. I like looking at the speakers topics. This morning had a look at the Paisley site, but it's yet another you have to sign on to, and the forum looked rather chatty. If I get really desperate, I'll have to drop them a line. I think they acknowledged the package I sent to all the Glasgow and Environs FHS, details of our lot's Paisley emigration.

Monthly PLUNKET day to-day, just popped in for afternoon tea, so must get back out to it. One more mob, to do, before it's time to prepare tea, for the daughter that works 10 hour shifts. If the only team leader on, it could well be an even longer shift.

Hi Alan,

Quote "Here’s another picture of the Seedhill Bridge, (5th row from the bottom) similarly unnecessarily and excessively mutilated by a watermark.

The point of the watermark is to prevent copying which was rife at one point from other sites pinching the images and passing them off as there own, all the images are purchased my myself or with more recent ones that are taken my myself and have built up a personal collection of over 60,000 images in the last 2 years alone.

Hi westender,

Sorry pal, but I had to edit your web address to avoid the misunderstanding that you're advertising for personal gain, even though that is clearing not your intent. Please see viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2222

To view westender's photos visit http://www.paisley.org.uk

Hi "westender"

Thank you for taking the trouble to post. Unfortunately the Paisley site [.org] on dial up connections, @ 30 Kbps takes ever so long to plug in ALLTHE HOOK UPS, so is not dial up friendly. The Paisley Gallery [.com] link was not successfully pasted into the forum post, so comes up with a connection error, when I click on it.

I will send you a PM about my primary interest. Unfortunately the RFHS is not set up with volunteers able to answer emailed enquiries, where other Glasgow and Environs Societies are, however it is their [RFHS] choice of illustration that is the focus of my posted interest here.

Greetings again.

Thanks Marilyn for a link that works for me. Will try it out some time when I have access to broadband. In a PM "westender" has supplied the name of a staff member at the Museum who handles their collection of paintings so I will give that member a try.

On my first visit on here for a while I am amazed to see a web address which is a link for a photograph posted as an informative reply to another member ,removed so as not to be mistaken as a plug for financial gain,if everyone who was as helpful as westender always appears to be had their helpful links removed ,I doubt there would be much point coming on the site to start with.seems a strange rule to me ,and one that makes an admins job very difficult if not impossible to do without causing upset, unless of course common sense is applied to the decisions made.
