Do you think the enumerator was just making notes and just happened to write it there ?

Maggie

Very probably yes, - is there a McADAM[S] family on the same page? If not, I'll be surprised if there isn't somewhere in the enumeration district.

When filling in the census schedule, householders didn't always realise that everyone in the household (not the same as house, just to confuse matters!) had to be listed, not just family members.

It could be the case here that the enumerator knew, or was told that there were servants in the household, very possible for someone who was a baillie.

kind regards
I'd need to see the whole page to comment, but I suspect not.

Hello Maggie,

I had a look at the poorhouse applications just in case but no luck I'm afraid.

I also looked at the census film but believe it or not the downloaded copy is clearer.

This doesn't help at all I know but a William McAdam had a glass manufacturing business in Hydepark Street.

Sorry I could not have helped more.

Regards,
Annette M

Hello David & Annette

David
i can see no McAdams family listed on the page
and i can't get the whole census page to go in the gallery for approval

Annette
thankyou for having a look in the poor relief
it's appreciated .

which brings me to the question who would have supported /provided for
these orphans ?being scholars obviously that wouldn't have gave them any income of their own hmn....
anyhow thankyou both very much again
kind regards maggie
