Would you have any suggestions on how to research Inverness?

Once I get out of the States I am really not sure how to research Scotland at all. I have bought cemetery books of Inverness Cemeteries and found many Baillies in certain cememteries. So I thought that was a really good sign. But just not sure what options I have to research that area?

Thanks,

Dave
Been researching for a short while but having much trouble making that first decendant find that is somewhere in the Highlands.

Hi Dave
Scotlands People (pay per view site) is the source of many Scottish births, marriages and deaths e.g. there are, apparently 318 Baillie births in Inverness (shire) between 1553 - 1854. That is only using the exact spelling, there may be more once you take into account the probable variaitons, and the Inverness records may not start as early as 1553...

To see what records exisit for an area, including Inverness, see here
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... r-cov.html
We can see here that the earliest extant records of Inverness births seem to start in 1604.

...and don't forget the IGI at www.familysearch.org - you can do a lot of prelimary searching there, only paying on SP for those records which you are pretty certain are the relevant ones. You can also order microfilms through any local LDS Family History Centre.

Best wishes
Lesley

Alot of great leads. I'm looking forward to going through them. I really appreciate the help.

Thanks again, Dave
