Hello All,

Yes Sarah, i saw them, the twins i mean, the McAllister, family she is living with, well on the 1851. census index this family is right next to her again, no sign of the McKay, twins, but she has Jane, and Elizabeth, aged 5 years, with her.

Regards,
Jonn.

Yep, John 8) I've got them all in my notes, but didn't want to overwhelm Katrina with them while she's still looking for James

Katrina, I just checked the catalogue for the National Archives of Scotland, and Kirk Session records do exist for that time and place. You'd need to get up to Edinburgh to see them on the computers there, or find someone to do it for you. They are not (correct me if I'm wrong here, folks!) yet indexed, but if you know the approximate time, you can read the relevant pages. And fascinating reading it is to be sure :!:

Regards,
Sarah

No, it was her mother, if I have this straight... Jean Niven had twin boys in abt 1840 to a man named McKay, then twin girls in abt 1846 (Elizabeth being one of them) to a man named McClelland (who is presumably your ggggg grandfather).

Hope I have this right

[cheers]
Sarah

What was his occupation? Maybe we can find him in the early censuses in the vicinity of Jean Niven...

:-k Nothing obvious, if that was his real name and his real occupation... Let's hope the kirk session members had a good time with this and discussed it in detail

Hello Katrina,

The marriage James Muir, Agnes Mcwilliam, is 1865, Ayr, Ayr.

Thats provided it is your James Muir, i would take the chance just in case it is him.

There is also a death for a Jane Niven, 1893, age 81, Ayr, Ayr. which could be your Jane.

Regards,
Jonn.
