Hello mb,

Thank you for your response.

You mention that you want to do some research into the Glengarnock area and it's Lithuanian inhabitants. It reminded me that a number of years ago when I was beginning my search for my Lithuanian ancestors that I was in contact with John Miller of Ayrshire. He had done quite a bit of research into the Lithuanian miners of Glengarnock. I expect that you know about him and his work. He was very kind and sent me information. Unfortunately my Isaac RIEMER was not a miner but a tailor's presser. I have no evidence that he was ever a miner. One day I will buy John's book as I am sure that it will be interesting.

Well, your search of the outward shipping lists at 'findmypast' eliminates a voyage to America which is brilliant. I will now concentrate on the UK and Germany. I feel a trip to Scotland coming on where I can visit the Scottish Jewish Archives and scour the database for clues.

Thank you so much for all your help. Still haven't heard from the Mitchell re the numbers in the Poor Relief Application but there's time yet.

Best wishes,
Carole

I had already decided to have a look at the original application next time I'm at The Mitchell.

How did you discover the one you have Carole and what are the other numbers?

Annette

I can only repeat that if they were active members of one of the Glasgow synagogues, then there has to be a good chance of a reference to Isaac's death.

Hello all,

I'm afraid my visit to The Mitchell came up with nothing that Carole doesn't already know.

In my opinion Isaac died between April and October 1896 but there was nothing to indicate exactly when or where. :x

Annette
