*** 2008 New Data Announcement ***

Post by AndrewP » Mon Dec 24, 2007 2:02 pm

ScotlandsPeople have made the folllowing announcement on their website:
  • We are pleased to announce that this year we have received permission to release the new years statutory data on 31st December 2007. This will comprise records from the Statutory Register of Births for 1907, the Statutory Register of Marriages for 1932, and the Statutory Register of Deaths for 1957. Almost 120,000 new index and corresponding image entries have been added to the site, amounting to six gigabytes of data.

Eagle eyed customers will have noticed that the dates given in the newsletter were one year out! Apologies for this.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the post. I got the email from SP late last night (I should say very early this morning) and immediately got out the credit card. Well, I kept spending those credits and not finding anything...of course, I wouldn't find anything new, would I :?: ....duh :!: isn't 31 December yet, is it :?: xmas:redface:

All I want for Christmas is some new specs xmas:cheesygrin:

Regards,
Anne H

Thank goodness there are still four years to save up for the 1911 census release :!:  That's not just the occasional birth, marriage or death in one year increments... that's everybody :!: I can't even imagine how much that's going to cost. Maybe we should start a fund for indigent TS members who have been SP-ed into the poorhouse (do you think we'd have access to the records in there? )

It makes you wonder if Scotlandspeople knew what they were doing when they knew the name would be abbreviated to SP and i think with the new data release a few of the SP's below might apply................

SPend / SPlurge / SPree - say no more !
SPread / SPanned / SPanning - as in when the family is spread over two pages and so have to spend another 5 credits to view the next page
SParing - as in economical with the truth
SPate - as in ….of luck ,when all goes well for a time
SPecious - apparently true but turns out to be false - ring any bells !
SPeculate - who us ?

SPent
xmas:roll:
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Really? :D :D I thought it was in January 2012... I did my homework before posting and found this in the SP FAQs:

Why can't I see later census returns?
The 1901 census is the latest available for public view at present, whether online or in person. To protect the privacy of individuals, census returns may only be inspected after 100 years. The 1911 returns will be available for public inspection in 2012.

I'll be glad to find out I'm wrong, however! :D

All the best,
Sarah

I had it in my mind for some reason that 2011 was a possibility - I may be wrong (it has been known).

Wishful thinking, perhaps.

All the best,

 Really? But then, SP has been known to be wrong sometimes too (note the mistake of the year mentioned above). I'm hoping you're the one who's right this time! :D
Wishful thinking indeed,
Sarah
