Also any suggestions to help me find out when her hubby George Marshall died, he is on the 1881 census, but is dead in 1892, I have tried a few on sp, but without any luck, there does not seem to be any about Geo's age, I don't think Janes ages is right on her dc, I think she should be 64, I have her b1829 and married Geo 1850, any help would be appreciated.

thank you
sandra

Hi Sandra
Is Jane at the address given on the DC in 1891? And who is living with her there? The informant is stated as an "occupier".

Kids on IGI seem to be:
1. JAMES MARSHALL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 08 NOV 1868 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

2. ROBERT MARSHALL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 01 APR 1861 Calton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

3. JANE MARSHALL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 08 JUL 1872 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

4. GEORGE MARSHALL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 23 JAN 1856 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

5. ELISABETH MARSHALL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 01 NOV 1865 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

..so could that be a letter E as the informants initial?? Do you know what happened to daughter Elizabeth?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hello Sandra,

That’s a very simple signature, all lower case, written slowly and carefully and awkwardly, much like a child, someone learning to write, or with an incapacity. The first letter is almost trying to slope to the left but gradually the slope tends to the right until the ‘k’ is quite pronounced.
In fact, if you get rid of the lines, flatten the signature to about half it’s height, compensate for the increased angle that produces and take account of the varying slope it looks exactly like ‘e arock’.

Anyhow, that’s my opinion,
Alan

I agree it does look like 'e arock', but I still cannot find that name on either SP of LDS web sites

Hi lesley,
Yes I do have the Marshall Kids, and I have tried to find out what happened to Eliz, as I thought the same as you, but no luck as yet.

This lass possibly couldn’t spell her name and had no one there to help her.

If you go to the IGI and search for anything for say ‘John Arock’ in Lanark you’ll get results for Orrock, Orrick and even Horrocks. I think that was all. Try those names on SP.

Hi Alan,
Yes could be one of these, but can't find a link with Marshall on sp.
