Hi Lirsty,
Welcome to TalkingScot. The place to go is here:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
You will be able to search for your grandfather if you know an approximate year of birth and will be able to order the certificate. If he was born before 1907 you will be able to purchase the certificate online.
The website is a pay per view, but very reasonable compared to some others.

hi nina
thanks for replying
My grandfather was born in 1924 and died in 1973 i only discovered this yesterday and it was on the scotlandspeople webisite.
the thing is i didn't want to order these incase they where just the extracts i was really wanting the proper certificates.
i don't have anyone in my dads side to ask as he passed away in 2005 and although he has 4 other siblings none of them will discuss there parents or anything else so its been a long struggle to find anything.
thanks again

Hi Kirsty,
I recently purchased my own grandfather's certificate thanks to someone here, and it is the full death certificate. No problem there!

Hi Kirsty
With the new modern indexes on
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk not only can you search for births and death up to 2006 you can place an order for an extract by simply clicking the link found next to your indexed record. The fee is the same if you ordered direct from GROS. As Nina has advised you....if the birth occured before 1907 you can purchase a view of the digital image and download it to your computer immediately. All newer births though have to be ordered.
Best wishes
Jean

You're very welcome. I had the same concern and it was people here at this site who put my mind at rest, so it is nice to be able to do the same for someone else!

The birth registration should give you the parent's names, date of their marriage, father's occupation and address. I'd go for that. You may find you can get further back to the censuses with that information!
