Hi Folks,
I’m trying to locate a ‘lost’ death certificate for an Andrew Hood who died in Dundee on 5th September 1865 in Dundee. I’ve as many wild card variations as I can figure but no joy.
How can I know this without the Death cert, well it states the date on his Will & Testament as downloaded from the ScotlandsPeople website. He was born to James & Margaret Hood in Dundee 13 Oct 1793 and was a shipbroker in Liverpool for a time, moving back to Dundee for the 1851 & 1861 Census Returns. He was married but his wife Mary pre-deceased him, by how much I don’t know as I can’t find her death cert as well, but she is more problematic in that I don’t know if she died pre-1855.
He was quite a wealthy chap leaving some £2800 in his will but it’s awfully strange that none seems to have filtered down to me! (':?')
Any help in finding Andrew’s death Cert would be most welcome
Jack

I'd like to be apathetic but I really can't be bothered.
Looking for blacksheep & not finding any with
Groats & Stevensons in Orkney, Hood's in Dundee/Angus, Mclaren's in Clackmannan and Jolly's in Kincardineshire. There may be more!

Hi Jack,
His death certificate is there, but indexed as AMDREW HOOD, age unrecorded on the index. I found him by searching fo A* HOOD in 1865 (no age specified). That search produces 8 results, one of which is Amdrew.
You should fill in a contact form on ScotlandsPeople and advise them so that they can correct the index. If you spent extra credits on this search, then advise them and they may refund some credits to you.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew (or should that be AMdrew)
Thanks for that check. I had ran a couple of index searches for AN* Hood over the correct year range, but obviously to no avail, now I know why.......
It did not seem reasonable that his name should be so badly indexed as Amdrew, its like they never checked the unusual forename, on the certificate it is quite clearly aNdrew.
I have informed them at the Scotlands Peoples site and asked for a refund on my wasted credits so we'll see what happens
Thanks again
