Where do I go from here

Post by wallace » Thu Mar 27, 2008 12:34 am

Banging my head off a brick wall trying to trace back my maternal grandfather's line of MCCRORIE / MCCRORY.

Can only find reference to the family in the 1901 census, where father David McCrorie is deceased and his widow Isabella and children Alice, Thomas, Lizzie and Isabella are listed living in Barrhead.

I know David and Isabella were married in Ireland and that David's father was Hugh McCrory and I think his mother was Ann mcLaren but can find no records for any of the above children or David or Hugh's marriage

Any ideas of where to go from here? :?:
Family Names are Maxwell, Wallace, McCrorie, Brodie, Hunter

Hello Wallace,

I think you are going to have to be a bit more inventive with the surname.

David is still alive in 1891 - the family are indexed as McRorie.

Happy hunting,
Annette

It looks as though they are there in the 1881 and 1891 census in Eastwood Renfrewshire. I used wildcards to allow for different spelling....Mc*ror*. In the 1891 I searched for David with the other person being Alice....bingo. And if any of the children were born in Scotland, then their birth registration ought to have a place of marriage listed for the parents.

All the best.

Nina

Yes Nina - the family are living at Eastwood in 1891.

Alice's birth is also indexed as McRorie. Hopefully that entry should give a marriage date.

Ooh you are all wonderful, had tried McCrorie/McGrory and McCrory never thought of McRorie.

I think I found that David and Isabella nee lafferty/laverty were married in "strabane" in N. Ireland.

This will help so much I just could n't seem to find anymore out and it was getting so frustrating.

thank you thank you .........so much. :D
