Is this my Anne Lennox?

Post by Dennis » Mon Mar 31, 2008 10:15 pm

Hi :)

I've uploaded the 1916 DC for Anne Lennox. I don't know if the mother's name is possibly the one I'm looking for, Catherine Deas.

Hi Dennis

I'm pretty sure that mother's name is Anne Lennox m.s. Deas.

Thank you:)

Here's the BIG question; could the name Anne be a version of Catherine?

Given your wifie's age more likely to be a mistake!

Hello Dennis,

It looks more like Dees to me but either way it sounds the same. If the lady was unmarried she probably would not have generated much in the way of documentation showing her parent’s names. The mother would have been very long gone and possibly only the children of the dead lady’s siblings, if any, might have had a clue as to the mother’s name.

But seeing that the informant was the Poorhouse Governor maybe she had been in the Poorhouse for a long time and names were recorded somewhere on admission maybe supplied by relatives or by the lady herself in order to save any inconvenience later. Perhaps they were supplied by relatives after death but before registration. Do Poorhouse records show much information and are they available as late as 1916?

I don’t know of any Catherine/Anne connection but there are plenty of much more likely nicknames for Catherine.

Just guessing,
Alan

Hi Dennis:

I think the maiden surname is Drea.

Hi Dennis:

I searched IGI and there is a Catherine Deas Lennox connected to Laurence, but far earlier.

Hi Dennis :)

If you follow Anne through the census records there seems no doubt that she is the daughter of Laurence (or Lemona  as the 1861 states) and Catherine.

Do you know what happened to her daughter - she seems to disappear after 1861?

Regards,
Annette
