Annie Purcell

Post by crayspond » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:20 pm

Hi to all at TS,
I had good luck in finding my husband's uncle Tommy Purcell and although he was born in 1911 in Hutchestntown (outside the date to download the cert), I found his death cert in 1945 in Cathcart Glasgow and the informant on it was his sister A. Purcell. We did not know he had a sister.
Searching some more i found her birth as <date outside TS guidelines> - again no image. I tried for marriage Purcell to <name edited, as may still be living> but as the marriage certs only go up to 1932 it would only make her 18 - possible but nothing came up.
I then looked at death certs for Annie <surname removed> using wildcard from 1945 to 1995 again nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas what i can do next?
My husband's grandfather John Purcell was born in 1902 - a big gap between him and then <name removed> 1911 and <name removed>1914 i wonder if there were any between 1902 and 1911! not up to spending all those credits going through the Purcells though!!

Regards

Ailsa

Hi Ailsa
Searching some more i found her birth as 1914 - again no image.
You can send for the birth cert if you wanted a copy.

A lot of people are in the same boat - you can only see the full details of births up to 1907 just now, due to the 100yr closure, so I reckon you need to make either a trip to NRH in Edinburgh (or Park Circus in Glasgow) or wait until the 1911 census is released in 2012.
I then looked at death certs for Annie <name removed> using wildcard from 1945 to 1995 again nothing.
She may not have remained in Scotland....

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi LesleyB,
Yes i could order a copy but i don't think it will tell me much more than it did on Ian's grandad's in 1902. I can wait for that on SP.
As i live in England a visit is not possible until my next visit - if i go to Park Circus in Glasgow can i see all the birth records?
I then have that niggling feeling that she may not have remained in Scotland and that's why i can't find the marriage - or else she remarried after Mr Birrell.
Thanks anyway sometimes i think i am missing something really obvious so it's good to check it out with you folks first :)

As far as I'm aware, yes, just as you can at NRH in Edinburgh. You cannot print out the pages, but you can take notes as much as you like!

Best wishes

Hi Ailsa
or else she remarried after Mr <name removed>.
A woman would still be listed on SP under her maiden name however many marriages she had!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Ailsa,

Have I missed something? How do you know Annie's married name was <edited>?

Hi Annette
Just as well someone is awake! I was guessing that the death entry was signed in the married name...not Purcell as stated above... But I should not be making assumptions!

Best wishes

Hi Anette and Lesley,

Apologies from me - in my original message i said

I had good luck in finding my husband's uncle Tommy Purcell and although he was born in 1911 in Hutchestntown (outside the date to download the cert), I found his death cert in 1945 in Cathcart Glasgow and the informant on it was his sister A. Purcell.

I meant it said A. <name edited - may still be living> - sister

Sorry for the confusion,

Ailsa

There is the chance Annie may still be alive.

Annette
