I wonder if anyone can help with researching Deaths in Scotland pre - 1855, when Scotland's People's records start?
Thanks

There is an online source for almost 14,000 online deaths for pre-1855, located at www.worldvitalrecords.com .
Here's the blurb from the site:
"The Scottish Death Records were extracted from parish records of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Specific parishes include Cockpen, Midlothian; Cranston; Crichton; Dalkeith; Dunfermline, Fife; Edinburgh; Fala; Gladsmuir; Heriot; Humbie; Newbattle; Pencaitland, Midlothian; Prestonpans, East Lothian; Salton; Shotts; Tranent, East Lothian.
"Record information may contain family relatives, occupation, residence, cause of death, the modern cause of death, the individual’s parish, county, and estimated date of birth."
The database was created by Shauna C. Anderson, Ph.D, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Biology, Brigham Young University.
Scotland's People will be placing pre-1855 deaths online, apparently towards the end of this year. All the death records that GROS holds have been digitised, they are being indexed just now. For a list of which OPR registers hold pre-1855 deaths, visit http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... r-cov.html . It should be noted that GROS has other pre-1855 records beyond the OPRs.
Various local authorities have online death records - for example, Perth and Kinross Archives have partially made available their burial registers from 1794, for free, at http://www.pkc.gov.uk/Education+and+lea ... isters.htm . Fife FHS has an online index for many records at http://www.fifefhs.org/ (Records page) and Largs records are online at http://www.ayrshireroots.co.uk/Towns/La ... PR%203.htm . Plenty of others out there, just takes a bit ofg Googling!
