This morning i was searching on Ancestry, a search that i had done many time but often repeat incase i missed something, for a person and a result came up in a catagory that i hadnt seen before. Then on the lunchtime news they mentioned the incoming passenger lists and "Baldrick" was being interviewed about it !
I dont know if it is complete as a few of mine seem to be missing from it ? and i cant see reference to its completeness.
Found one that i have been searching for for a long time so i am :D
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

I saw it today too but I don't really have any in that time period, so it's not worth me paying for the worldwide subscription.

There is one mind you...............my husband's return from Canada around 1958/9. His dad was homesick so they came back to Scotland after only 2 years. I think I can see them indexed landing at Greenock.
If anybody is feeling generous PM me and I'll give you the details.

Regards,
Annette

Thanks all, Tracey got in first. :D

After spending nearly all day yesterday searching and not finding people i knew came back from various parts of the globe and now having taken a closer look at how much is available it begins to make sence as to why i cant find them.

I just took a look at Tilbury (as its the nearest port to me and no other reason) and there is only one year 1898 and one month October and one ship on there.
Aberdeen covers years 1908 only has the month of December and one ship. 1909 has similar. The next year is 1915 then from 1954 to 1960 i wont go on but its worth looking at before you get a square bottom and tartan legs like me yesterday :)

But the new records have caused another problem as i found someone coming home that i cant for the life of me find going out and we know she went, which makes me wonder if outbound are similar in availability to the new inbound :?

Tracey,

Findmypast has the outbound records or many of them anyway.

You're right that these records have many problems. I found a great aunt leaving Scotland and on the 1900 Census in the USA, but when I checked the ship and date from Findmypast against the arrivals in the USA, the ship was there, but my great aunt wasn't on it! Makes me think that some of the ships stopped at different ports before they got to the designated destination. Either that or Great Aunt Jessie was a heck of a swimmer!!!

I guess we just have to be glad for what ever kernels we find.

Hi Carol

Does FMP have differing outbound records to Ancestry ?
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Tracey,

FMP and the UK Incoming are both lists showing names, ports, nationalities and not much else. I think I read that they are taken from "passenger cards".

Most of what is on Ancestry under immigration are passenger ship lists showing arrivals in various countries--USA, Canada, Australia and border crossings into the USA. These are the lists that have the most information in them. There are a couple of lists showing passengers coming from Ireland, but they seem to be chapters of books of some sort. I'm not really familiar with those as I haven't had to use them. Maybe some else can clarify this for you!
