Hey all:

Yet another in my list of documents I am requesting assistance with 8)

This is the 1871 Scottish census for the Ransom Bruce family. I have all the names figured out except the last one. To me it looks like Elizabeth, but my wife doesn't agree with me.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Ancestry indexes would try to make you believe it was Elgalor but there is only one BRUCE female birth in Benholm that fits age wise
1866 BRUCE ELIZABETH F BENHOLM /KINCARDINE 253/00 0016
The mother happens to be an unwed Elizabeth-Lintiana Bruce. Does that fit in?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean

Yes, that is what I saw when reading Ancestry's version; that is why I went directly to the source. According to the IGI, the mother's middle name appears to be "Sintiana" <shrug>

As for fitting, it seems to be the best one so far.

Lorna and Nancy: Thanks. This boosts my ego just a little bit

Hi Brian

It is Elizabeth, and her mum was indeed Elizabeth Sintiana Bruce. Ransom is my ggg grandfather.

Susan.

Thanks Susan. I'm trying to get a paper trail linking this family to my Lawson's, but didn't want to bother you with a bunch of questions about Ransom and his line.

What is the origin of Sintiana as a name ?

Hi Brian

Have not yet been able to find out about the name Sintiana, it's proving very hard to find where it came from.

Your Margaret's father David Bruce was Ransom's half-brother. Ransom was born in 1812 to James Bruce & Helen Watson, they did not marry. In 1815 James married Elizabeth Orcherton (Orcharton, Orchardson, Orchanter - the list is endless !!), David was then born in 1818. David actually had another half-brother as his mum Elizabeth had a son James Milne in 1806.

Susan.
