On the marriage certificate it states that the woman is a widow, her future husband a widower but on her death certificate no mention of first marriage the informat was the second husband. is this common ?

Hi Drew,

It is not unknown for previous spouse information to be missing from a death certificate. The information given at a death registration is only as good as is known to the informant. If the informant was distantly related, or not related at all, there is the highest chance for such information to be missing or incorrect.

So, if you find such information missing or wrong, have a look to see who the informant was. See if it is great nephew, neighbour, hospital attendant or the like.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson
