Hello,

I have hit that brick wall again, been doing my other ancestors recently but have still got no futher with james gilvarey b1794 aberdeen and married margaret ross b1801 on some census his age makes him born 1800, they were married in maryculter church 1822, spent loads in scotlands people site trying to get a death for him to get his parents, i have all the history for them having their kids etc, but i want to see if i
can go back a bit more.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Gillian
In which census did you last see him? 1841? 1851? 1861? 1871? 1881? etc (so you know he died after that date)
And where was he at that time? (location from the point of view of looking for MIs or OPR deaths & etc)
What are the names of his children in order of birth? (clues as to his parent's names)
Where does he say he was born on the census? Aberdeen City or is it the county of Aberdeen?

I dont have all my notes with me at work, but sure it was 1841 in aberdeen, he and his wife margaret were not alive at one of his
childrens marriages in 1869, his children were

Hi Lesley and Gillian,
In 1841 both James and his wife say they were born in Scotland, but not Aberdeenshire. By 1851 the whole family has disappeared Do you have anyone in the family in 1851?

In scots origins i'm sure it says aberdeen for them both, but the marriage cert in scotlands people does not give much information, i always used the head of the family for the census maybe i should try the childrens names. i did get a hit in 1851 but it said that the image was not available.

have to sign off now, got kids to collect.
