I've been searching for the death record of my gggrandfather Thomas Darling, husband of Mgt Lang, who was born around 1842 in Maybole. I found him in 1881 and 1891 census, living in Bridgeton , Glasgow, but he is not in 1901 Census , while his wife is and he is recorded as deceased in 1901 when his daughter Annie married. This suggests that he died 1891-1901, but I can't find the entry.
I am also searching for death of Wm Lang, husband of Elizabeth Arthur. They married in Oct 1836 and he was dead by daughter Margaret's marriage in 1869. I suppose he coud have died before records began in 1855. I'd be most grateful for any tips or suggestions.

Hi Sheila,
Have you looked at this chap on SP?
1897 DARLING THOMAS M 54 ST CLEMENT DUNDEE CITY/ANGUS 282/03 0149
Is there any chance he might have been visiting that area?

Thanks for trying, but I had already looked at that one and he has a different wife and parents. Maybe Thomas was out of the country when he died, but he was only a weaver, who came to Glasgow to work in the carpet industry, so I can't imagine he did much travelling, unless one of his children moved to England, for example. I'll keep puzzling!

Hi Sheliago:
I found 4 SP deaths for Thomas Darling, male, 1891-1901, all records, all districts, unrecorded ages. Have you checked them all out? If he died away from home, a lot of details may not have been known, and it didn't take much travelling to be in another district at the time of death, especially in Glasgow.

Re: Can't find deaths
The 1901 census for Margaret Lang should say if she was widowed or married. If she says married then he died between the 1901 census date and the date of his daughters marriage. ryansheilago wrote:I've been searching for the death record of my gggrandfather Thomas Darling, husband of Mgt Lang, who was born around 1842 in Maybole. Thanks everyone,
The 1901 census does say that his wife was widowed, so I can only narrow it down to 1891-1901. I have checked the SP entries, though I only get one entry for a Thomas in those years with a birth date 10 yrs either way of 1842. It's certainly a mystery!

narrowed down year of death to 1891-96, but still no luck!
I have now found a marriage of one Thomas Darling's sons - John in 1896 and Thos. was deceased by then , so his death was between 1891 census and this marriage in 1896. I searched all male deaths in Scotland in these years for Dar**** - age 45-55 ( he was born around 1842) and found 23 entries, but no Thomas Darling. He had lived since his marriage in Bridgeton, Glasgow, but there are no deaths of any male Darlings in Glasgow. There's a Rbt in Dalkeith who's the correct age and a John in Biggar , but don't think that they can be him. It's quite frustrating as I know so much about him otherwise and would love to know what happened to him. How can he have disappeared?
I'll just have to keep trawling through his family's records and maybe something else will throw up a clue! Thanks to all who've puzzled over this.

Thanks Lesley - I did see that one and checked it out even though the name Pallet ddidn't mean anything and I thought that the 0 referred to age.As expected this Thomas was baby, so definitely not my Thomas. The search goes on, I'm afraid!
