Hi Gordon,

I took a peek at Matthew's birth certificate. It shows that the parents were unmarried at that time. So, if they were married, it was after June 1899. I see no obvious sign of a marriage on ScotlandsPeople. What does Margaret's death certificate say regarding her marital status and spouse?

All the best,

Andrew

How silly of me to overlook the birth certificate,I took it for granted that they were married because it said 'Margaret Watson' as mother.but on Henrys death cert there is an RCE that has removed Margarets name and substituted hers with another woman. The plot thickens I think. If I've learned anything from this, its take nothing for granted.many thanks for your help in clearing this up.

Hi All,I've done a 1901 census check on Matthew M Watson and traced it back to Church St,Larbert. His mother is listed as Margaret Blair who I thought had been married to Henry Watson but they never married, also on the census is a Margaret B Watson aged 4,there is no mention of Henry Watson but he died of Senile decay in 1922 so he might have been in the Asylum then.Margaret Blair was 39 at the time of the census so I put her birth at around 1862-63 in Alloa.I got a hit on SP for such a person so I viewed it The problem is although it said Margaret Blair at the top of the page, the only Female on the page is a Elizabeth Gray born 9/10/1862.not a mention of my search name.Is it possible that SP have it wrong or is there something stranger going on.
Regards Gordon :?

It is probably just a mis - index Gordon.

You can check by the gros number on your search results page. The last number is the actual entry you should be viewing which is at the left hand side of the individual record.

I'm sure you'll find it's different and if you email SP with the details of what you want they will send you the correct one.

regards,
Annette

Hi Gordon,

It is mis-indexed, Margaret should be #258, the last one on the previous page. Margaret is shown there with her twin brother Edward #257. The #259 on the index is taking you to the next page. Follow Annette's advice and complete a contact form on the SP website advising them of this.

All the best,
