ANDREW and CAMPBELL and KILMARNOCK

Post by philrob » Sun Sep 13, 2009 1:58 pm

Dear Readers :D

I have a DUNCAN CAMPBELL ANDREW born in Kilmarnock in 1860. He later married a MARY ANNE POWER.

I am interested particularly in the parents and grandparents of Duncan.

His parents were apparently ALEXANDER ANDREW and ELIZABETH CAMPBELL married in 1852.

I believe the parents of ALEXANDER were a WILLIAM and JANET ANDREW.

Does any reader connect with this family, who can confirm these details or even extend them for me?
Best Regards from Western Australia,

philrob

Have you seen the death certificate for Alexander Andrew? Hopefully that will name his parents, assuming their names were correctly known by the person registering Alexander's death. Hopefully that document would also give the maiden surname of Janet. If William and Janet died in Scotland at some time from 1855 onwards, then their parents should be named on those death certificates.

If I am looking at the right death certificates for Alexander and Elizabeth, that they both died in Kilmarnock, then William and Janet are correct for his parents. Between the two certificates, the four parents are given with maiden surnames for the mothers.

Both of Alexander's parents died in Kilmarnock and their parents are all named, so there is another generation opening up to you.

These certificates can all be seen and downloaded as digital images at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on a pay per view basis.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hello Philrob,

Alexander Andrew's, mothers name was Janet Woodburn.

If you go to Family Search, put Andrew, in the surname box, highlight British Islands, then Scotland, then in the Batch No. enter 8200730 you will then find some Andrew, information with death dates etc. although this info is submitted its very accurate.

For example William Andrew, Alexander's, father died 09/Aug/1869. Kilmarnock, Ayr.

His Mother Janet Woodburn Andrew, died the year before 1868. aged 72 Years, also in Kilmarnock, Ayr.

Regards,
Jonn.

As Jonn says the majority of this info is submitted by an LDS member.

You might be able to pinpoint whether these are the correct people by checking the census records and checking to see which ones had an Alexander of the proper age.

There are many more records for Andrew families in Kilmarnock, and it may be worth your while to sign up for a free trial of Ancestry BUT you must notify them before day 14 of your trial, if you wish to discontinue, or they will charge your card for one year's subscription.

Dear AndrewP, Jonn and Frances,

I wish to thank you all most sincerely for the wonderful answers to my initial question. I do realise I have to go through it all and verify everything but between you, you have managed to breakdown walls which I thought were never going to come down.

Thank you all for your wonderful efforts - it is very much appreciated!

Family members have told me the Andrew name was decendent from the ROSS clan who moved south during the Highland clearances.
