Mitchell Library Poor Law Records

Post by dunntoon » Thu Feb 04, 2010 12:41 pm

Hi,
I have just been informed of the Mitchell Library in Glasgow , which holds records of applications for poor relief so called the Poor Relief Records .I belive theses are not available to view over the net but a visit is needed to the library.
As i'am unable to visit could i be cheeky and ask if anyone out there is doing any research at the Mitchell Library could you do me a massive favour and do a search for :- DAVID DUNN b circa 1795 = MARY nee McKEE DUNN : resides in Dunbarton/ dumbarton from 1861 , but could well be in the Glasgow area before this date.i do believe it is free on the librarys internal computer system , i do not wish people to go out of thier way ,only if you may be researching yourself to take time to slip this one in , as i'am desperatley tring to find a lead from my Irish decendants. Thank you
Regards Phill Dunn.

Hi,

Just to let you know, while the search is free in the library, they charge for copies, then send them on later (in my experience). Can't recall exactly how much (couple of quid each I think) but there's too much info in them to transcribe (especially if there's more than one application or report), so you'll want copies.

Hope someone takes you up on it, they're very useful documents.
Regards,
Ann

Sorry Phill - no applications from either of them. I also had a look for their sons but nothing for them either.

Well at least you know they didn't need help from The Parish.

Annette
