Help with Marriage/Birth Search

Hi

I'm looking for a marriage of my GGGF Charles Elder's parents , his death cert from 1891 shows on SP as his parents as:

William Elder = Labourer
Christina Elder (Simpson)

but I can't find any marriage record for them anywhere on SP or familysearch.org or a birth for Charles Elder - he shows on the census as being born in Pittenweem, Fife but theres no birth record of this on SP.

Could anybody point me in the right direction or could those records just have been missing maybe?

Hello Ali,
You don't mention any dates for Charles Elder's birth. Is he the one In St Andrews and St Leonards, Fife in 1881, an Ag Lab age 54, with wife Allison and children Isabella and Thomas? His birthdate appears to get earlier as the censuses go back, so maybe he was born around 1825 +/- 3 years?

I have seen Elders written as Alder and Alter before, but I don't see a birth for any of those spellings with a forename Charles in Fife.

It's possible that he was not baptized in the Church of Scotland or that the record doesn't survive.

Maybe someone else will have better luck tracking him down.

Ooops... sorry yes, that's them on the 1881 census for Strathkinness, St Andrews, Fife, I also can't find a birth for his wife Allison Drummond either, sounds like this is gonna be a fun search!

Charles son, Thomas Elder married Jane Drummond in 1891 in the Church of Scotland, Parish of Abernethy, Perth.
