I am looking for help and assistance with the following query from the 1841 Census. I am researching the Stewart Family in Banchory Devenick Kincardineshire. I have managed to get back as far as John Stewart and Catherine Horne. They had at least 3 children
Alexander born 1814 in Kildrummie and died 1864 in Banchory Devenick Married Mary Ann Gordon
Catherine born c1812 died 187O in Montrose had children with William Clark, Watson McRobbie or Robbie, and Peter Mackie - no marriages found
and James born 1820 in Banchory Devenick no further info.
The mother Catherine Horne died in Banchory Devenick in 1857 her parents were Alexander Horne and Elspet Forbes
In 1841 Catherine (m/s Horne) and daughter Catherine are at Drumwhell Banchory Devenick with her son Alexander closeby at Marywell. There is however a family headed by a Forbes Stewart aged 30 also at Drumwhell. Given that Forbes was next to Catherine m./s Horne and her mothers maiden name was Forbes I had thought that there was a strong possibility that Forbes Stewart could be her son. I also thought that Forbes used as Christian name was not that common. This Forbes was aged 30 in 1841 and had a wife Isobel (Laing). Would appreciate any information or advice on this.
And now for the coincidence - also in 1841 in Peterculter Aberdeenshire (less than 4 miles from Banchory Devenick is another 30 Year old Forbes Stewart with his wife also Isobel - (Hunter) and their children.
Are both Forbes Stewart related? Can anyone shed some light on this - seems a strange coincidence that the 2 Forbes should be so closely located in 1841?
Any suggestions or information greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Robert Stewart

Re: Forbes Stewart - Banchory Devenick Kincardineshire
Hi Robert,
From looking at Family Search, the Forbes Stewart in Banchory Devenick married Isobel Laing there in 1835. The second Forbes Stewart married Isobel Hunter in Aboyne in 1836. Maybe they were cousins of some degree, but Forbes isn't that unusual of a forename. I have two in my family tree. Your best bet would be to try to find their death certificates to get their parents names. Can't help you there! I'm over budget for SP for this month and eyeing the grocery money already...
Also, the Forbes family was in Aberdeenshire for a long time. There is a Forbes castle and a lot more information on them on Google. I'm guessing that my two Forbes were named after this family since my family comes from that area of Aberdeenshire.
