Bamboozled by NAS online index

Post by Lorna Allison » Wed May 25, 2011 10:01 pm

Hello Folks

A couple of weeks ago I managed to get myself to a page on NAS online index which gave ref nos. for volumes pertaining to specific date periods for criminals in jail or appearing in court in Edinburgh. Now, for the life of me I can't find it again. I don't know which court (but certainly not the High Court) or which jail. I tried emailing NAS to find out the link but the return email tells me to wait about 20 days for an answer.

Lynda is waiting for me to go to Edinburgh and dig thro' to see if we can discover a link between our Pringle families and I would like to get on with it. If anyone can give me the link to the correct page I should be most grateful.

Our mutual :?: relative George Pringle b. abt 1791 was banged up for 20 days for keeping a disorderly house and we are pretty sure this would be in the Canongate area. I think he would have appeared at a Sheriff Court or a Burgh Court between 28 March and 2 April 1850 (def. about year and dates) but no idea of the jail he would have been sent to so looks like a fair number of volumes to search but at least the dates are close together.

While on the topic - I notice from a post today that Poorhouse records may be available in Edinburgh? Didn't know that and there is a George PRINGLE died in City Poorhouse, Forrest Road, Edinburgh on 3rd March 1858 who might also be our George. Would I be able to search them at NAS also?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Regards

Lorna

Hi Lorna

Is this the list of sources you were looking for? You need to scroll quite far down on the page to see the table.
