Hello was wondering if there would be any records of a stillborn death? My husbands nan was a twin and we know that her twin died at birth or shortly after. I have found no other birth at the same time as his nan so i assume that mean the twin was stillborn. Would like to find out any info at all about this twin but don't know where to start ? Any help would be fantastic
thanks in advance

Re: STILLBORN BABY
Hi smd,
My mother gave birth to a stillborn and I tried to see the record at New Register House and was told the only person who could see the record was the mother (I imagine the father could also access the record).
Regards,
Ina

Re: STILLBORN BABY
Stillbirths have been registered in Scotland only since 1939.
According to this GROS – National Records of Scotland page: http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/regscot/ ... birth.html
“Extracts of still-birth records from 1939 onwards are available from National Records of Scotland for a fee. Due to the sensitive nature of still-birth registrations, these extracts are usually only issued to the parents of the still-born child. However, siblings of still-born children may apply, either with the express consent of a parent, or on their own behalf, where they can demonstrate that their parents are no longer alive. “
All the best,
Alan

Re: STILLBORN BABY
If you write to GROS giving as much detail as you can (in this case a copy of your husband's nan's birth certificate would be perfect) about the registration - place, date and parents along with the appropriate fee (I think it's £15)they will send you an extract if it was registered.

Re: STILLBORN BABY
Hi Annette,
Thank you for that info. When I was there a few years ago, they didn't tell me that I could apply to see the record. I'll contact them again and see about getting a copy.
Thanks again.
