I have a couple that married June 9, 1905 in Edinburgh. How can I find out if they had any children? This is a major wall for me. They were Henry Deas Lennox dob May 19, 1884 and Sarah Barker Veitch dob Jan. 11, 1886. Both born in Edinburgh.
Henry's parents were James Hogg Lennox and Helen Stewart.
Sarah's parents were James Veitch and Sarah Barker.

Hi Dennis,
Working your way forward in genealogy is a challenge, particularly as you are looking at a time more recent than you can search online and more recent than the most recent open census (1901).
To find the children of that couple, you would need to go to New Register House, or have someone do research there for you.
You would be seeking to view all of the Lennox births from 1905 onwards (possibly for up to 10 to 20 years on). If you were confident that they stayed in the Edinburgh area for their married life, then you would probably look at the births local to Edinburgh first, keeping an eye open for middle names that occur in their parents' and grandparents' names (Deas, Barker, Veitch, Hogg and Stewart). You woul need to view each certificate and check who the parents were.
Without any other information, such as family papers to give first names to be seeking, there are no short cuts. It is also worth checking the parents' death certificates. Who informed the registrar of their deaths - most commonly a member of the immediate family. Could give you another name or two to look for.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Hello Andrew.
Unfortunately there is no DC on SP for either of Henry Deas Lennox or Sarah Barker Veitch.
I'll have to try and find someone to go to NRH for me. Since I am related to HD Lennox, I can't claim any Veitch relation unless they did have offspring; as just a marriage is not considered being related.

Hi Dennis,
There is a death for a Henry Deas Lennox on SP. The age is wildly out, but for an exact name match, I would expect this may be him (wrongly indexed, or wrong age given on death certificate). If it is not him, this could be a relative.
Henry Deas Lennox, died 1935, aged 79, Townhead, Glasgow.
Worth a try? That's for you to decide.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew.
Yes, I had looked at that DC to which you refer; unfortunatley the parents don't match.
The Henry Deas Lennox that died in 1935, son of John Lennox and Elizabeth Drysdale, is the uncle of the Henry Deas Lennox that I'm on the heels of.
