How to find testaments from 1902
From 1902, to search for the will and/or inventory of someone who died in Scotland or someone with Scottish connections who died outwith Scotland, you need to know:
the person's name,
where they lived, and
when they died.
There is an annual index of testaments, the Calendar of Confirmations. From 1901 to 1959 it takes the form of printed or typed volumes and from 1960 it is in the form of microfiche cards. The Calendar covers all of Scotland and gives details of the deceased, their place and date of death, and details of when and where their testament is recorded. The index is available in the Historical Search Room and the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, holds copies up to 1936. From 1985-1996 there is a computer index available in the NAS search rooms.
With regard to the bank, I somehow doubt they would still hold account records from 27 years ago but even if they did, I doubt there would be open access to this data due to it being relatively recent. I would expect the usual closure rules may apply.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Joyce
I'd suggest you get in touch with NAS directly. (
http://www.nas.gov.uk/contact/default.asp )
Although there are NAS catalogues online, I very much doubt that recent indexes will be available to search remotely.
As you have a name, an address for the person and a date of death they should be able to check for you if any will or testament exists, and if there is some documentation, advise how much it would cost to obtain a copy.
Best wishes
Lesley

Joyce
Modern day wills, i.e. testaments, are dealt with by the commissary section of the local sheriff court. After a certain period they are sent to National Archives in Edinburgh. I don't think that there is any set rule as regards the period; it's probably as much to do with available storage space.
In this case, involving a 27 year period, the will may just still be at the Sheriff Court, but could also be in Edinburgh.
In your case, I'd suggest contacting the commissary section of the sheriff court involved. That should be possible by phone and email.
