I have downloaded a 1934 death certificate - it is on a page with 2 other deaths. There is an RCE also listed for this reference. None of the images make any reference to an RCE. Without looking at the RCE is there any way to know to which of the 3 certificates it belongs?

Re: RCE
That is odd Trish - as you know, there is usually a reference on the page on the left side indicating that there is an RCE. It may be an error so it may be worth contacting SP to ask. Otherwise it is a bit of a gamble...
Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

Re: RCE
Thank you both - I was wanting to check if it was my lack of knowledge in relation to RCEs - but it seems from your replies it shouldn't be
Annettes query made me check all the deaths - a very varied group
28 year old single woman who died in hospital of tuberculosis
2 week old babe who was born at 28 weeks and died of "prematurity" (Her father was a professional football player - I should read all the images more often)
my man aged 62 who died in the Queen Mary nursing home of bowel cancer (a somewhat longer and more technical description, but I think that is the translation)
So then I have checked the RCE - it gives suicide - lysol poisoning! as the cause of death - ahh - for a completely different person - so it is indeed an index error - my man died Oct 5, the RCE relates to a death on Oct 4. I'll send a note to SP - might get my credits back

Re: RCE
That was good, prompt service Trish. I have no complaints either about problems with SP images and indexing. they have never quibbled about any points I have raised and been quick with the credit refunds. SP is getting a bit of a hammering on another forum and I had to sticky tape my fingers together to stop them issuing an irate post.

Re: RCE
I agree Russell - but good customer service brings its rewards - I have 12 pages of viewed images and 40 pages of previous searches (I cannot bring myself to work out what that has cost me). I think I am a good customer - although I know many folks here have probably bought a lot more.
One thing I do infrequently is complain about an image, yet whenever I have they always rescan and email a readable copy.
Now what is needed is some way to get the printed certificates delivered sooner - that would be useful
(I shouldn't complain, in Australia there is NO way to access recent indexes let alone certificates)

Re: RCE
I have to consider myself one of their best customers. I have 81 pages of viewed images and have concealed the number from my wife in case she has apoplexy. Seriously though she would rather spend credits on SP rather than go out for a meal so half the images are her responsibility. Almost all my relatives are Scottish so I have not had much experience with records - and their cost - from other countries so the only comparisons I can make are from TS posts. My collection of large lever arch files has grown to 13 or 14 and I don't resent a penny spent on it. I could nip over to Edinburgh quite easily but the convenience of on-line access suits me especially when its raining or snowing

Re: RCE
Ohhh Russell - but in some ways I am envious. I am only 25% of Scottish roots & they left Scotland in the 1800s. Many of my searches are the sideways look at more distant family.
I have spent more, for much less to research my next 50%. I do find that Ancestry provides my most economic method for searching in England - the release of the LMA and Dorset records in particular. In Australia I use many free sites but there is NO way to access BMD records without paying - and the cheapest state costs 5 times the price of SP for an image or certificate.
I have spent almost nothing on my Irish roots - these folks wouldn't say who they were, nor where they came from when they arrived in Australia - and if pressed gave a different answer whenever the question was asked - so I know I am 25% Irish, but who and from where prior to the landings in Australia will probably not be found in my time.
The completeness of the SP records, with the continual updating of indexes when errors are found is another benefit of research in Scotland. I don't think the GRO England/Wales Indexes are ever updated despite the well documented errors. A mammoth task to sort them out (and put the indexes online) died after 3 years of expenditure - if my memory is correct.
