Looks like:

Born at Doon, Ayr-shire (Her third child)

Anne

At a guess I would go for Doune in Perthshire (which was Stirlingshire), after looking at census records, but I haven't a clue what the end bit is.

Annette

Right I see that now Anne and it leads to shire on the next line. Census records say she was born at Stirlingshire so I'd definitely go for Doune in Perthshire as her place of birth.

I'm getting a feeling of deja vu here, I'm sure we've had this discussion before.

Annette

Age is a bit out in this transcription but this looks like her in 1851 at Glasgow.

Grace Henry 52
Amelia Farquharson 30
Mary Mcgibbon 22 visitor born Down, Stirling

Regards,
Annette

 Thanks Anne. We sort of had this discussion before but that was on a Census. This one is a birth.
Thanks to those that have looked. I've just emailed SP to see if they can make the image clearer, so hopefully I will know in a day or so.

Yes Annette, thanks for pointing out that shire is on the next line. I had not quite looked that far.

Unless there's a flaw elsewhere on the  page I would say that the image is about as good as they get in the format that is supplied. Whoever penned it likes broad upper case letters, the A in Ayr matches that elsewhere, and a replacement won't improve the handwriting.

All the best,
Alan

What is written there is Doon, Ayrshire; but that information is only as good as the registrar wrote down from the information given by the informant on the day. It doesn't necessarily make it a fact. If it was Doune, Perthshire, look out for references to Kilmadock parish on other documents. Doune is not far from the Perthshire / Stirlingshire boundary.

All the best,

Andrew

Thanks Everyone. I shall put Doon as her place of birth for this particular document, but I am really not sure that that is where she came from. As what was said in a previous topic her birthplace has been written as several different places. I shall just keep nutting away at it and hopefully things will be corrected in time.
