Isabella Reid DOB 17 09 1888 Bonhill

Post by jjlmary312 » Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:38 pm

Her parents were Robert John Reid and Mary McNicol. She had 2 brothers Robert John Reid Jnr and William Reid and a sister Mary(my gran). She married on the 05 07 1915 in Hamilton Lanarkshire to a Samuel Brown. Can anyone provide me with her DOD I think she died in 1948. Where was her husband born and what was his DOB and also DOD. Place of death if possible. Did they have any children?
Thank u for any help given. My mum is 90 and is also interested in this.

Hello JJLMary
I did a rough search on SP, there is a death in 1948 which may be her, same for her marriage in 1915.
What you need to get is the marriage certificate, then you can check when he was born, through his parents.
Once that is established you may be able to find siblings, but it may be a costly exercise as you can't do a parent search in Statutory records (big error by SP).
Unfortunately I don't have any credits left at the present.

Hi jjlmary312

As all the events you have mentioned happened in Scotland you should be able to search for them on the Scotlands People web site at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

As Stew has mentioned, one certificate should provide some of the information you need to verify another one. e.g.
Where was her husband born and what was his DOB and also DOD
The marriage entry will give the husband's age and parent names. Finding a census entry for the family with the 1915 husband as a child will give his birthplace e.g. 1891 census maybe - it will depend on his given age in 1915.
From there you can search for his birth entry and that of course should have matching parent names to the later marriage entry.

Tracing forward to children is sometimes more difficult and time consuming a job, as some children to this couple may have occurred prior to the mother's maiden name being recorded in the database (mid 1920s) but again, a search on SP for that later period may round up some potential candidates. Bear in mind however, that some of these people may still be living, so we would not mention names and dates here on Talking Scot.

Happy searching!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi

Thanks for that. I woould appreciate any information and a copy of the marriage cert. I am on ancestory and was on Scotlands people but seemed to waste a lot of credits because I had sketchy info.

I am also tryng to trace if they had children and when they left Scotland for Canada.
