Hi,
I was just reviewing the death record of a relative and I noticed under the column 'Signature and qualification of informant, and residence, if out of the house when the death occurred' that the informant was listed as 'son and inmate'. What does 'inmate' mean ... residing in a hospital? in jail? cohabiting but not married?
Thanks for your help,
Moira

Re: term 'inmate' on death record
Hi Moira,
Inmate in this context is usually "cohabiting but not married". In modern terms, it would be like flatmates. They can be related or unrelated, just living in the same house.
All the best,
AndrewP
