Hello all,
I wonder if anyone can help me with the search I´m doing on my family. I´ve hit a brick wall with my G-G Grandfather George Beaumont born 1818 died 1858. Came from Haddingtonshire. Married Elizabeth Marr there. I´ve got everyone up to the present, but cannot find anything about his parents, from D certificate the father was called John and was a gardener.
Hope someone out there can help.
Thanks a million,
my G-G Grandfather

Hello mcnaught and welcome,
The census Annette found looks very likely. I noticed while searching that many of the people of that surname were born in England, as was John the gardener. Does George's death certificate give a name for his mother?
All the best,
Sarah

Hi mcnaught
And welcome to Talking Scot
What occupation did George have? (The death cert should also mention this.)
Best wishes

Re: my G-G Grandfather
There seems to be a birth on Family Search web site for a couple with the names you gave, having a child in Glasgow a few years later...
James Beaumont
Birth Date: 01 Oct 1858
Birthplace: HUTCHESONTOWN,GLASGOW,LANARK,SCOTLAND
Father's Name: George Beaumont
Mother's Name: Elizabeth Marr
And a child Robert in 1855 also in HUTCHESONTOWN - that birth would be well worth downloading from the ScotlandsPeople website as 1855 births give a log more information than any subsequent year.

Hello everyone,
Thanks a ton for all the info Annette,I am thrilled, can I ask where you got it from??? I do use Scotland´s People, but am able only to get back as far as 1851. No hope with the 1841 census.
He was a slater, and I have a lot of info after their move to Glasgow.
Sarah, there was no mother on the death certificate. Only the father John, the gardner.
Many many thanks to all of you,
Regards, Eileen Mcnaught

Hello again,
Annette, I just wanted to let you know that I tried Freecen, but they give me no info - shame!
Hope to get over to Scotland in Spring next year, and you have given me something to go on.
Thanks again,
Eileen Mcnaught

Hi Annette,
I had more luck with Scotland´s People. With the different spelling I was able to find John´s son George in 1841 census too, I´ve been searching for 3 years, and all of a sudden there they are and they are definitely the right family. Thanks again for all your help.
Kind regards, Eileen
