Crossed out occupation - 1901 English Census

Post by Aliballibee » Sun Oct 04, 2015 9:08 pm

I've gone off on a little tangent into my English side of the family. Being a "Taylor" can be a little unhelpful at times :D

I've come across various parts of Census' that have been "crossed out" but it is unlucky that both my relatives on this one have their occupation scored out.

On the attached census, just about in the middle, are George and Arthur Taylor. The are both listed as worker, both noted as being born in Gt Gonerby (Lincolnshire) but living in Woolwich, London at the time. They both have their profession / occupation scored out although both seem to be doing the same job (similar looking words)

Anybody have any suggestions as to the missing occupations?

Many thanks

Alan

Hello Alan,

I would say the occupation is "Navvy." This question rang a bell in my memory, so I searched the forum and indeed, that is the conclusion we came to in 2012 :)

Oh dear!

Thanks Sarah - that's a bit embarrassing!

I only recently picked up the threads of my family tree again but hadn't realised it was nearly 3yrs since I was last online.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Kind regards

Alan

Don't worry, Alan,

We all have our absent-minded moments! :D From the other thread, it seems as if you never did get back to see the responses, so you're forgiven for not remembering them!

[cheers]
