Appeal for Examples.......

Hi all

My few words the other day on maiden names and statutory death register entries and indexes inspired me to continue on the theme in terms of other statutory records, censuses, testaments and whatever else comes to mind. 2,000 words at the moment and climbing.........

But I've hit a problem. Nowhere can I find a clear statement of the treatment in the marriage indexes of the situation when the marriage of a widow involves her using her first married surname. In other words there will definitely be an index entry under that married surname, but is there also one under her maiden name, as it was there on the register entry to be extracted?

I've got a few examples myself, but I''m not happy that the size of the sample is big enough, sooo....... any situations you have which involve a widow remarryinng, please let me have the reference. I don't need the image, - just the reference please, i.e. names, place, year.

Hello David,
Here is one of my widows remarrying:

Catherine McLaughlan married John Murray
4 May 1863 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire

don't know when Murray died, but then she married

Daniel Hughes on 12 July 1875, also in Kiilbirnie.

Here's another:

Jane Currie married John McGoff 25 July 1852 in Girvan, Ayr.

He died 10 June 1877, then she married

Henry Hall 13 July 1881 in Calton, Glasgow.
