All his life in Dysart and Abbotshall but I can't find a DC.

Alexander Henderson was born in Dysart 1789 or 1790 and married there in 1811 to Margaret McLeod.
In the 1861 census, the couple were living in 37 High St, Abbotshall (close to their daughter Catherine's household at 39 High St). Alexander was 72.
On the DC for Margaret in 1865 she was a widow and still living in Abbotshall. However I can't find a DC for Alexander who must have died between 1861 and 1865, aged 72-76ish and presumably in Abbotshall or not too far from there.
Would anyone have any suggestions? Alexander was a seaman but I wouldn't expect that he would have still been a sailor in his seventies!

I have a gr grandfather in Stranraer a fisherman and he was still supporting himself and wife at the age of 80. so I would say yes he may have still been working.

I also have a few deaths I know when they happened I know the place but they simple are not on DGROS for some reason, You may have to get a trip into Edinburgh to have a search on the microfiche index.

Hello Johann,
Did you check out the 2 deaths of Alexander Henderson -Abbotshall 1861-1865, found with the 'unrecorded ages' box ticked?
The age will be on the cert, but for a few years around this period the ages were not put on the index, therefore as its the index that is being searched, some deaths will not show unless you tick the little box.

I believe the ages are being gradually added to the index.

Can't guarantee either of the deaths will be yours though, as I didn't have eough credits left to check.

And Bingo! your suggestion, Ian, found the right man. I had forgotten about searching for unrecorded ages. He was the 1861 death in Abbotshall. So I've made another step forward (or should that be backwards?) in the family story - thanks again for your help.
