Woodilee Hospital.....

Post by Miss Poohs » Thu Dec 08, 2005 1:02 am

Hi everyone - there is no escaping my questions?!!!

I have discovered that my maternal grandfather died in Woodilee hospital in 1974.

I have no idea how long he'd been there, but I do understand that he suffered with his mental health, and had been hospitalised for quite some time.

I would dearly love some sort of access to his medical records.

Supposing this would be possible, how would I go about going doing this?

What sort of records would I expect to find?

Thanks

Janice

Hello Janice,

There is closure on these records. See the website -

http://www.archives.gla.ac.uk/gghb/collects/hb30.html

A word of warning if you are able to view them.
I requested and received my G. grandmother's who died there in the 1920's.
I really just wanted the photograph but got the whole thing.
Although I didn't know her I found the information very distressing and felt I was intruding in her life (and soul).

Regards,
Annette M

Thanks guys

Annette, I have thought exactly that!!!

I just wonder if I do get permission to view Herberts records if I'll go through with it.

I am really grateful to you for saying what you did, as I have found myself thinking the same thing, more and more over the last day or two.

I didn't know Herbert at all, although I was 10 when he died. My mum told me that he had died when she was a child, so the oppertunity was never there.

I think I will pursue permission to view his records, if I am successful I will have to go on my instinct on the day.

I fully understand and appreciate your feelings, and thank you.
