1859 Marriage certificate.....

Post by STUARTDALGLEISH » Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:28 am

Evening all,

I have an 1859 marriage cert and it show all 8 parents on the page as alive i.e it does not say deceased against any of them. Can I take it that they are alive at this date or was this information not recorded this year. I maybe being a little too cautious here I know but I've never seen all parents alive before and I'm having trouble narrowing the search for the person I'm after.

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

From the marriage certificates that I have notes from, I have parent(s) showing as deceased on certificates of 1857, 1859, 1866 etc. I believe that "deceased" has been shown from the start in 1855.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Thanks Andrew,

That was quick.... I though it would be but it's good to check. At least it's only an 8 year period now.

Thanks again

Stuart

Hi Stuart

I have a Marriage Certificate for 1859 and the parents of the bride and groom would appear to be alive when in actual fact I know for certain that the father of the groom had died before 1841 :?

Cheers

Annette......oh come on....I wanted to hear someone say that and then again I didn't.

This maybe makes sense though. Just battered another 12 quid today and many more previously looking for my James Jack between 1859 when he's on a daughters marriage cert as "alive" and 1867 when he is shown as dead on his other daughters death cert but again to no avail.

Onwards and upwards......

Thanks again for your reply

Hi Stuart
Sad to report I too have things which don't quite add up:
James Davie's marriage in Partick 1863 says both his father James & his mother Susannah Guy are deceased,
...however, his sister Susan Davie's death (Mrs. Daniel McNicol) in Eastwood 1867 states her father James is deceased but does not say Susannah is deceased.

I have not been able to find Susannah Guy's death... I spent a lot of credits trying and have not found them in the 1861 either (or the 51 for that matter!) so I suspect she must have died before 1855 (but I'd love to be proved wrong!!)

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Stuart,
Like Annette, i too have a few that didn't say the parents were dead - yet i had their DCs!
Others i just don't know - can only presume they died 1851-1854 because i just can't find their DCs 1855+
Have you you looked at the family on the 1861 census?
You might get better value visiting Park Circus at £13 per day!

Hi Lesley,

Yes I'm thinking he must have been before 1855 but as you say it the thrill of the chase until proven otherwise. Still hunting though...

Jack,

I've been trying to get to Park Circus this month but unfortunately my boss keeps giving me more work.....he just doesn't understand that I'm a detective after 6pm at night
Looking forward to it as I've not been since they installed the link into NRH.

I've got a list as long as my arm of wee end's I need to tie up. Hopefully I'll have a good day.....when I get there.

Cheers

Just to add to the other comments Stuart and to make your headache worse, I have an 1859 marriage showing a deceased parent.

I'd agree with Jack on a visit to Park Circus.

Jack,

Spend a few credits at the end looking in 1861 but unfortunatelycould not quickly narrow the family down...so far and to make it more difficult the 3 children married in 1845,1854 and 1859 so they had left home so it's only maw and pa!!!. The father James was a miner so not a great life span I suspect and to make it even worse, the mother remarried but I cant find her death, 2nd marriage either...... It's feast and famine in this hoose

Cheers
