The Mathies and McBrides once again
I did a "parent" check on my Mathie family and up popped an extra child !
Two Alexanders 10 Years apart same Father and Mother on BCs William Mathie and Agnes McBride
different Mothers name on first ones DC
Alexander Mathie Born August 1858 Died October 1858 age 3 months
Father William Mathie Mother Elizabeth Cameron ?
Second Alexander born 1868 no problem as I can vouch for him all the way down the line.
Whats going on here ?

It was not uncommon to find two children in the same family with the same Christian name.It is a recurring theme in my family where one child has a name they want to carry on that a subsequent child is given the desceased sibling's name.I've heard of it happening where both children survived too.
Different Mothers is another one the names are not even vaguely similiar so either a distraught parent registering the Death gives wrong info or the Registrar made a booboo.
Do you have certificate or is it of SP? If the latter have a look at the other two Deaths on the page & see if any details match or if "yours" is on one of theirs.

Hi Maureen
I had a similar confusion in one line where the mother was named on the birth certificate as Elizabeth but on her daughter's death certificate had become Margaret.
A chance discovery showed her as illegitimate following her mother becoming a widow with 7 other children in the house! and being christened Elizabeth Spence, her mothers name. Since there were two Elizabeths already in the house (her mother and sister) she appeared to have been called Margaret. She then took her mothers married name for a time and then changed again when she got married.
It was her middle names gave her away. A chance look at another family showed children with the same middle names. They acquired them legitimately but posterity can draw their own conclusions as to who Elizabeth the third's father was!!
The moral is - don't give up, Turn every stone - even the unlikely ones and you might get a pleasant surprise.

Hi Momat
That appears to have been a common event in my lines and my wife's.
" I've something to tell you dear......"
"It's OK, I've arranged things for a week on Saturday!"
"We'll tell your father tomorrow"
Most appear to have lasted into the 8 or 9 kids bracket so it can't have had too bad an effect on the relationship.
