Fawcett - history without a history.....

Post by Beverly » Sat Jan 28, 2006 10:17 pm

I'm researching my mom's dad.... nothing but dead ends.
All I have is Elias George Fawcett, born Paisley Scotland July 1, 1880
He ended up in Canada and died at the age of 41.
He may have come here and was a "home child" but not sure.

THat's pretty much it. Anyone with any info or advice, please chime in.

Thanks. :?:

Hi Beverley
and a very warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D
I've drawn a blank on Elias but could this maybe be him as George in 1881??

The George born above in the 1881 census was clearly born in 1880, in Renfrew - Renfrew is 2 miles from Paisley. If your Elias was born in July and as you know, the census was taken in April 1881, this George is very close in age. I wouldn't write him off completely yet!
All I have is Elias George Fawcett, born Paisley Scotland July 1, 1880
Where did you find his date of birth?

Best wishes

Hi Beverley

Welcome to TS :D

Just out of interest where did you get his birth date from and do you have the certificate ? I have just searched scotlandspeople and didnt find him there or on LDS. The closest i got was putting George Fawcett b 1870-80 and i think there were 4 but none including the name Elias born 1880.
Might just be me this time of night after a full days work

I'm new at this geneological research. I certainly will not write him off. I'm not up to speed geographically and I have no one to ask about him.

Where does he fit in with all your information? That would be so very wonderful if it were him.

Hi Beverly and Welcome!

I'm going to ask you to keep an open mind on this one just like Lesley has done! The age is extremely close!! I wonder what documentation you have that supports the July 1 birthdate? It's just that in my own research I had a GrGrAunt who was born in 1872 in Patna. I knew her growing up. I have family birthday books that have her birthdate recorded. I've seen her gravestone inscription. Imagine my utter surprise to learn from her BC registration in Scotland that she was actually born on a totally different date than what had always been celebrated!!!  Same month but several days off!!! Did her own parents forget?....I've often wondered how such a thing could occur! So yes....an open mind is critical in this game :D !

Best wishes
Jean

birth date

I have seen his death certificate. States he died at 41 years old (that was in 1921) and my mom told me. It was her dad. Unfortunately she was only 1 at the time of his death so .... take that for what it's worth.

Through some general searching - it appears he only went by George, however I've located a William George E. Fawcett who was on a "Home Children" list. This individual arrived in 1892 to Canada at the age of 12 which makes him an 1880 birth.
