I've been searching for the death of John Griffin. He was on the 1901 census in Camlachie and wasn't shown as deceased on his daughter's marriage cert. in 1903. His wife was a widow on her death cert. in 1926.
His age was 68 in 1901, although given as 60 in 1891.
I've opened all the certificates on SP that I thought may have been him even with huge age discrepancies. I also searched for John Griffen.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can go from here?
Heres hoping!
Alison

John's death is there but I had a bit of trouble finding it.
I (SECONDLY) searched for John Gr*n (this would have caught Gryph?n etc)aged 68 to 92 between 1903 and 1926 for Lanarkshire. There aren't that many and only one in Calton where the daughter, Sarah married and the Wife, Jemima, died.
This isn't helped by the fact that the death is listed under John GriBBin although the actual extract is 100% John Griffin age 71 in 1909.

Re: death of John Griffin
Hello Alison,
there is no accounting for the vagaries of indexers! Despite clear (to me) handwriting, he was indexed as John Gribbin in Calton during 1909.
In instances such as this, where everything logical has failed, use wildcards such as surname GR*N, county Lanark, age at least 65, and 1901-1926.
Please submit a contact form to SP to get the index changed.
Regards,
John

Missing Death (no longer!)
Many many thanks Andy and Sporran.
I generally do use wildcards but thought with Griffin I was okay (apart from the odd Griffen I've come across).
I've been searching for ages, even in NRH when I was there in July.
Once again, thank you both so much,
All the Best
Alison :P
