Marriage certificate.....

Post by Debrs » Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:15 pm

Can anyone help please? I'm trying to find a marriage certificate for Hugh Brackenridge Cumming and Elizabeth Watson. The marriage date as shown on their son's birth certificate is 1907 August 25 Edinburgh, but I'm coming up against a brick wall on SP.
I've tried a few years forward & back, also tried every thing I can think of on name searches and nothing is coming up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Debrs

A warm welcome to TalkingScot.

I wasn't any more succesful than you. :(

I eventually tried a CUMMING/WATSON marriage in 1907 in Edinburgh City and there was only one hit William G CUMMING & Agnes WATSON in Morningside. The same search for a wider year span produced nothing either.

Don't know what to suggest. Hope someone else has an idea.

Best wishes

Catriona

Hi Debrs

Welcome :!:

I too like Catriona had a look - i had 2 lonley credits waiting on scotlandspeople and they were not going to do much so i did 2 name searches Cumming / Watson no first name or year limit and just out of interest did a Brackenridge / Watson and nothing came back for an Elizabeth and Hugh. :? I also tried a search on freebmd for an English marriage just in case but the 1907 "server" wasnt co-operating  :!:

Hi Debrs

Hello and welcome! I can't find them either but have several questions for you anyway :D Because you state the date is recorded on the BC of their son I have to assume you have an original BC that you either ordered or have had handed down as it isn't online yet. Do you know if Hugh and Elizabeth had any other children? If they did do you know names and birthdates? Their BC's could be checked for what was recorded as a marriage date at that time. If they all agree on the same date maybe it would be worthwhile to contact GROS and see if for some reason the Marriage was registered and might just be omitted from their indexing. If it can't be found in the original records....well.....it doesn't look good does it?

That's all I can suggest at this point.

Best wishes
Jean
