Looking for information on Thomas Allan McGill married to Isabella Evans they were married 18/01/1930 in Motherwell.
Ian John McGill a son came to Australia in 1960.
Looking for any information or relatives.
Or does anyone have any information regarding the deaths of Ian's parents (obituary notices etc.).
I believe that there were siblings for Ian however the family has not been in contact since the 1960's.
Any information would be appreciated.
Regards
Donna

Hello Donna
Short of anyone on here being related im not sure what you are going to get in the way of response given the dates. Have you looked on www.genesreunited.co.uk for anyone submitting the same family name as you ? If not i will happily look for you.
But maybe someone will come up with a better solution !

Hi Tracey
I'm basically looking for any links/info I can find - my father in law Ian John McGill passed away last year. We have no information regarding his side of the family. I'm clutching at straws I know - but surely someone must know something or someone?

Hello Donna
Can you move forward by going backwards so to speak ?
Do you have information on these regarding their births and parents and possible children or siblings ?
So, who was the last member that there was contact with ? (you dont have to post the answer !) were they in the Motherwell area ? and are the chances still that they are alive ?
Questions you have no doubt gone over but worth the double check.

Was he married by then or did he marry in Australia ?Ian John McGill a son came to Australia in 1960.
If Ians siblings remained in UK you have a big-ish chance of finding relatives on genesre as mentioned before with the interest in genealogy in UK at the momentLooking for any information or relatives.
Do you have any idea where Ians parents died - do you think they stayed in Motherwell ?Or does anyone have any information regarding the deaths of Ian's parents (obituary notices etc.).

No - the family lost touch in the 1960's.

He was married in England in the 1950's.

That's what I'm hoping for - there is a rumor of Ian having a twin. It may be that the two were separated - I think Ian was raised by his grandparents?

Possibly his mother was in Alexander Ave, Wishaw in January, 1960 - so maybe in the general area.

Ian was in contact with his mother in 1960. Apparently there is a security box in a bank still.

Hi Donna
Perhaps you're not aware that if you access the Scotlandspeople pay per view website you can view and print a copy of the MC for Thomas and Isabella. You are spot on with the date and place. From this document you will learn their parents names and whether the parents were living or dead at the time. By quickly searching for a DC on the maiden name and married name of both mothers you can learn that Ian's grandmother McGill died in 1919 and his grandmother Evans died in 1951. Both DC's will give you their parents names and you'll get the bonus of a son-in-law informant on Marion Evans'.
Because I think you're far from Edinburgh and the newer records are not available online the only reasonable but perfectly feasible method would be to engage a researcher to search for and/or obtain a transcription of Ian's parents DC's and also to search for any siblings to him. In my own lines I've had several forward traces done and have been able to make contact with living rellies still in Scotland!
Best wishes
Jean

Hi JustJean
I'm in Australia so yes - far from Edinburgh. What did you access to find the death's? Basically I'm trying to find if anyone has this information - to try and save some money - as you know this can end up being expensive. (especially with exchange rates etc.) Did you have some names of the grandparents? I'd really appreciate any information you may have traced.
Regards

Hi Donna
If you access the Scotlands People website you can search for the records I mentioned. It will cost you £6 for 30 credits. Each search will take 1 credit and to view each image will take 5 credits.....so a total of 6 credits. For the £6 you could have copies printed from your computer of the Marriage record of Thomas & Isabella and 4 more including the search for them. From the first MC you'll learn the names of the parents and can search for their deaths. It's easier to find the DC for married females as you can search using both maiden and married surnames. In your case I think there was only one result in each search so not hard to get it right! I can understand the need to be frugal as this can be an expensive hobby!! I can tell you that Thomas Allan McGill names his parents as John McGill and Elizabeth Weatheral. Isabella Evans names her parents as Benjamin Evans and Marion Martin. The informant on the DC of Marion's was a son-in-law named Alex Hogg.
Best wishes
