trying to locate a death(date).....

Grt grandfather James Lough returned to Ireland from Glasgow for a visit/holiday took ill died ....was alive in 1907 (daughter's wedding) but not when my grandparents married 1921 is there any place in Scotland that would have a record of this info as this was his usual reisidence since 1870's his wife resided in Glasgow until her death 1932 thanks for any advice have tried minor records on SP no luck

Hi Scossie,

Welcome to TalkingScot.

As you are talking about pre-1921, Ireland was still a part of the United Kingdom, so I would assume that there would be no entry amongst the "foreign deaths" which some were notified to the General Register Office of Scotland via the embassy or consulate. (Now having re-read your post, I see you have already looked in the Minor Records where that would have been.)

The only possibilty that comes to mind is if he was given any form of death announcement or funeral notice in one of the Glasgow newspapers. Unless such things have ever been indexed you would be looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack unless you have a date for his death.

Hi Andrew thanks for responce what about his wife (Grt grandmother) would she have had to registar for a widows pension or assistance of some kind ..........it's a bit harder trying to locate here in Oz thanks cheers helen
