Hello Fiona

This from the General Register Office website....

"Entries in the registers of births from 1861 include: name; date, time and place of birth; sex; father's name and profession; mother's name and maiden name; date and place of marriage; signature and qualification of informant, and residence if out of the house in which the birth occurred."

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean
Thanks for that - I wanted to make sure before I write off for a copy of a birth certificate. If the date of marriage is on it then I've broken down one of my brick walls! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
thanks again
Fiona

Hi Folks
Just thought I'd let you know that thanks to the generous offer by Annie I have knocked down one of my brick walls! \:D/
My elusive Mackay couple were married in South Africa in 1907 so it's no wonder I couldn't find them.
A very happy girl tonight

That's great Fiona! So kind of Annie to have a look ... but then, that's part of why we're here - the great members!

Hi Frances
Yes I was very lucky! I think I mentioned in another post that directly or indirectly I have had a tremendous amount of help on this forum from kind members like Annie so I really appreciate it.
